Beijing ChengXuan Auctions will hold 2007 autumn art auctions at Beijing International Hotel from 6th to 8th of November. It includes Oil Paintings and Sculptures, Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy, Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Stamps and Postal History and Coins and Banknotes. A total of more than 4200 lots will be shown in front of collectors and art lovers.

Sotheby's New York, Sotheby's Hong Kong and Beijing ChengXuan respectively had chosen Yue Minjun's "altered famous paintings" series as knockout products at same time in this autumn's auctions since Yue Minjun's Pope ranked the highest in Chinese Contemporary Art in Sotheby's London 2007 spring auctions. In addition, The Music from Yue Minjun painted in 1995 is his representative works through the deconstruction of the western classical paintings' image and structures, which will present at Beijing ChengXuan 2007 autumn auctions.

Zhou Chunya is famous for his excellent control of color in contemporary Chinese art. At this ChengXuan autumn sale, Zhou's Green Dog is the embodiment of his use of anti-rational and anti-natural color. The Green Dog was painted in 2001 and attended the First Chengdu Biennial with huge size and glamour.

Yin Zhaoyang has the most focus of attention in recent years as a representative artist of "Young cruel paint" in the late 1990s. The two most famous paintings named The Myth: A Tired Giant and The Stone with author's strong individual style will be seen at this ChengXuan autumn auction.

There are series of experimental art pieces about Chinese characters, Chinese paper, ink and language at this ChengXuan autumn auction. Among them the most attractive are Xu Bing's The Land Script and An Introduction to Square Word Calligraphy, Words series from Qiu Zhijie and the Painting of Four Beauties from Wang Huaiqing.

ChengXuan has always paid attention to oil painters both of the first generation and the second generation. At this autumn sale, there are representative works of Yan Wenliang, Li Chaoshi, Yang Qiuren, Lin Dachuan, Hu Shanyu and other masters. The most excellent piece of Zhou Bichu rated as the master of Chinese Pointillism will appear at sale. We believe that this state-level work will capture the attention of professional collectors and galleries aiming at the collection of perfect whole system.

The Taiji series is a millstone in Ju Ming's (Zhu Ming) sculpture skill which forms his own art style. ChengXuan will show Ju's the Taiji series: Starting Stance created in 1991. It will be the first time to sell Ju's excellent piece in the mainland market.

Lin Fengmian's Lady Series has always appealed the collectors. ChengXuan will present his "Women Musician" at this autumn sale. In this painting, there are four ancient beauties playing DiZi, Ruan, GuQin and PiPa with the same deep tranquil elegance and graceful charming but different gestures.

After the success at ChengXuan 2007 spring auction, photography as an independent item has gathered the most important photographers and their trademark photos in the 100-year-old Chinese photography. Apart from the photos of Lang Jingshan, Lu Shifu and Liu Xucang in the ROC period(the early period of 20th), the photos of Guo Xiqi of the then Photography Society of China and those of Hu Junlei of the then Photography Society of Shanghai in 1930s will also be presented. Since the founding of New China in 1949, many photographers have focused on the real life in China Such as Wu Jialin and Xie Hailong fixing on the poor areas, Yang Yankang and Feng Jianguo demonstrating the people and their customs in Tibet and Weng Naiqiang and Xiaozhuang recording the Cultural Revolution. These photographers' works will also be seen on the auctions. In addition, many conceptual photos of many important contemporary photographers have been collected at this autumn auction. For instance, My New York of ZhangHuan, the Bridge of HaiBo, WengFen's On the Wall-HaiKou and A Bird's-eye view of Shanghai, Wang Qingsong's Ferry, the Qi and Blood of Wang Jinsong and a group of Hong Lei's imitations of Song Dynasty including the Painting of Peach Branches, the Delicate Fragrance and Dappled Shadow, Painting of Autumn Chrysanthemums and Quails and the Painting of Lotus Coming Out of Water.

With number of over 500 lots the Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy still will be allocated into two parts at this ChengXuan autumn auction.

At this 100th Anniversary of the Li Keran's birth, ChengXuan has collected several of his paintings in various periods and subjects to form a special sale for the collectors. The Lijiang River: A Crystal Palace with size of 37.2×22.5in drawn in 1972 is the most distinguished landscape in light ink of Li's compared to the same size and subject so far as we known. The painting is lucid but full of misty spray because every brushwork is devotedly done with "the method of ink accumulation" to form distinctive layers between the light and dark ink. The best painting of Li Keran in 1960s is the Painting of Spring Rain in Shujiang River. In it we can see the endless mountains against gray tiles and white walls, the rosy peach blossom and several boats sailing on the river, all of which are in perfect harmony with the sharp contrast of colors. Jiangnan and Sichuan are the two favorite places of Li Keran, so in "Spring Rain in Shujiang River" the mountains are the Sichuan style but the houses are the Jiangnan style. Besides the above two paintings, several of figures' paintings in his earlier career and the Painting of a Gust of Sudden Autumn Wind painted in the year upon his death deserve our appreciation.

The paintings of Xu Beihong are as popular as Li Keran's at the art market since Xu Beihong's the Lady had sold for more than 4 million RMB at ChengXuan 2007 Spring Auction. Apart from his famous Galloping Horses, the remarkable Morning Glories and Two Cats of Xu Beihong drew in 1939 will be presented at this autumn auction. The two cats are resting on the stone with one lying while the other standing against the white and purple morning glories. The painting had ever been collected by Xu Youmei, Huang Manshi, Chen Zhichu and other good friends OF Xu's and favored by the art lovers.

Lone Drinker in Moonlight is one of the best figure paintings of Zhang Daqian in 1930 around the rim written with poems inscribed by the Beijing famous persons at the early period in the 20th century, which makes it peculiar to that time. To our enchantment, the Chinese ancient painter Tang Yin once painted A Lonely Drinker in the Moonlight in which the figure refers to Li Bai-a great ancient poet and meaning derived from a famous poem of the Chinese ancient poet Su Shi. Therefore, Tang's painting is a perfect combination of two historical figures. Zhang Daqian made an innovative imitation by using the original figure but instilling his own conception into it. Furthermore, An Imitation of Fanghu's Cloudy Mountain of Zhang Daqian skillful mature period with the style of gentle grace will be strongly recommended for the collectors. Besides, Xuzhou Old Monk that is originated from the famous ancient book called New Accounts of Old Episodes and Imitations of landscape after Shi Tao's style that is drawn with delicate strokes display the genius of Zhang's imitation and innovation in the painting of figures and landscapes.

Next year is the Year of Rat, and ChengXuan will show the Rats of Qi Baishi in small size but full of meanings. Five Pomegranates show the fullness and happiness in a long narrow scroll, and it can be consulted in the book Complete Paintings of Qi Baishi and will surely be cherished by collectors.

One of the most important lots is a pair of paintings of Wu Changshuo named Pony and Narcissus, Red and Green Plum Blossoms. The flowers are Wu's favorite subjects. The fine rare painting was inscribed by author himself both in the painting and on the package. Another painting of Wu Changshuo in 1916 is named the Vegetables and the Books including two cabbages and a pile of books expressing his family's literary tradition.

A little Album of Birds and Beasts of Pu Xinyu is noted for its small size. The animals in the album include not only the dragon, tiger, horse, ape, egret, oriole and other rare birds but also hedgehog, bat, weasel and so on. The author expressed the animals in the extreme vividness and delicate thoughts with exact and elegant color. And Pu Xinyu's Guan Yin, Zhong Kui, Flowers and Landscapes should attract the collector's attention. 

Besides the above authors' paintings, there are paintings from so many masters in Chinese Modern Paintings and Calligraphy history such as: Wu Hufan, Yu Youren, Shi Lu, Lin Fengmian, Qian Songyan and other famous artists. There are too many and dazzling paintings to be fully listed.

Chinese Ceramics and works of art are the main component in the international auction market. And ChengXuan will present more than 200 lots at this autumn auction with many elite arts ranging from Ming and Qing imperial to the scholars' studios.

There are several vases in the period of Qianlong, Qing Dyansty at this ChengXuan autumn auction. A fine and rare imperial kilns blue and white vase (Guanyin) with two handles in the shape of elephant has the delicate and elaborate carving of the two handles and the soft tone with the strong style of Qianlong regime. A rare flower designed blue and white octagonal vase (Guanyin) has the characteristic of elegant shape, bright tone and the smooth carve. Another blue and white octagonal vase is very rare with the feature of the same shape and carves but different glaze compared to the above octagonal vase. A robin's-egg-glazed octagonal vase made in the earlier period of Qianlong with style of Yongzheng in the shape of bottle vase and painted in effulgent glazes. And a fine figure designed Chenghua-type blue and white vase (Meiping) was an imperial kilns' imitation of this form in Chenghua style with elegant painting and graceful tone showing the love to Chenghua ceramics of Emperor Qianlong.

The works of arts of Ming and Qing Dynasty are famous for their luxury and elaboration. A rare and perfect "Qiang Jin" auspicious book box in thick deep but bright red lacquer incised Bajixiang with the lotus scrolling on the brocade box bestowed on the senior Tibetan monks by the emperors of Ming Dynasty, and so far it is still kept intact. A spinach-green jade screen with the painting of gilded figures, flowers and birds is kept very well painted on both sides of the glittering and crystal jade with fine drawing in Qianlong period. There is a imperially inscribed white jade "Luo Han" screen was sold at New York Legacy Auction 30 years ago caving the Luo Han in kinds of poses vividly on the thick deep material of Qianlong. A white jade bowl of Jiaqing's period is fastidious in choosing materials, pure in texture, dedicating in carving and thus shows the extravagant life in Qing Dynasty royal court.

The arts from the scholars' studios will show the taste of ancient elite and they are equal to the royal ones in terms of the material and the crafts. An extremely rare late Ming Dynasty's Chengxiang Mu brush pot with relief on the original shape and is similar to the ivory brush pot in style with strong feature of the period. The extremely rare Tianhuang seal is orange in color, selected material and meticulous in carving. ChengXuan believes all the above lots will bring the collectors the delights and harvest of the autumn.

At Coins and Banknotes special sale, there are Ancient Coins, Sycees, Gold Sycee, Machine made Gold and Silver Coins, Banknotes and RMB with a total of 2000 lots, among which several rare precious gold and silver coins collected from three famous overseas collectors, will be shown at the first time in the mainland auction market.

The most attractive lots in Modern machine made coins are as follows:
A 1910 Yunan Province, Xuan Tung Yuan Pao, 7Mace 2 Cds trail type silver coin has been considered as the unique one in the world. The coin had been secretly kept by a senior collector since 1940s. Only several rubbings were sent to the collector's friends for research and the rubbings printed as "云南庚戌"(meaning:Yunnan 1910) in many catalogs of Chinese gold and silver coins can be traced to this coins. The highest praise of the coin was given by the modern famous coin professor Zhang Huang. In his book, Mr. Zhang offer an estimate higher than the other Chinese unique coins such as "Feng Tian 1tael", "Ji Zi 1tael" and so on to show the coin's scarcity. "There is a single dollar coin, forming the last of the series of the Yunnan silver pieces and is very scarce." Said by the American senior collector Mr. E. Kann in his book named Illustrated Catalog of Chinese Coins. And the coin's first appearance at Chinese market was in 2002's Beijing spring auction fair sold for RMB 1.089 million. ChengXuan will bring the new collectors a very good chance to walk into the first place in the field of coin collection at this autumn auction by selling the coin.

An 1896 Hubei Province Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao 7Mace 2 Cds silver coin with Chinese character "本省" (means Hubei Only) was an imitation after silver coin of Guangdong by Hubei Silver Coin Bureau. The character "Hubei Only" had been embedded in the coin at the primary mint to show the difference with other provinces then recalled the issued coins with the characters to wipe out the two words. So far there are only several coins in the world with the words, some of which have suffered wear and tear and some are chopped. But ChengXuan will present the almost intact silver coin with "Hubei Only" from a famous overseas private collection at this autumn auction.

A 1927 Chang Tso Lin memorial silver coin was designed and minted by Tientsin Central Mint. And the American collector Mr. E. Kann had illustrated the coin in the number 686 in his book named Illustrated Catalog of Chinese Coins. And the coin had been sold in lot 877 at the special auction on Mr. E.Kann's Collection in 1971 when the coin was bought by an American collector Mr. Goodman.

Twenty years later, the coin was sold on special sale for Mr. Goodman's collection in lot 1062. Then the buyer at the auction became the owner of the coin keeping it till today. Since 1991, the coin has not been seen at any public auctions. And ChengXuan does think the rare coin in the condition of flawless perfect will be wanted by many collectors.
